BRITE BRACE™ CARE
Dr. Waugh introduced "Brite Brace(TM) Care" in late-2008 when he opened the new Waugh & Allen office in Athens at The Exchange Healthcare Center. Conceived by Dr. Waugh and the first of its kind in the world, Brite Brace(TM) Care is a benefit Waugh & Allen Orthodontics offers patients to help eliminate the chances of white scars forming around braces due to poor oral hygiene.
HOW IT WORKS...
At a patient's adjustment, if indicated, a Registered Dental Hygienist selectively applies an air polisher to the front teeth to dislodge the bacterial film from around the brackets, after which a clear fluoride varnish is applied. By professionally removing the bacteria and immediately applying a protective layer of professional fluoride on the enamel, the incidence of white crescent-shaped scars on the enamel is dramatically reduced. Still, unless the patient maintains proper home care, the risk of the decalcification scars forming still exists.
DEMONSTRATION...
Watch the video and pause it after the first tooth is polished. When you compare the two front teeth you can see the dramatic difference! Best of all, research shows no harmful effects to the enamel even with repeated applications. Since Damon System patient adjustment appointments are widely spaced apart, this service is even more crucial for many younger patients with inadequate oral hygiene. To meet his goal of providing the most exceptional orthodontic service at the most cost-effective level possible, Dr. Waugh offers the Brite Brace(TM) Care in conjunction with braces at no additional fee.
FINAL WORD...
This "selective polishing" is NOT a prophy or cleaning. The dental hygienist selectively polishes only those areas where a problem may potentially appear and in only those patients at-risk for the decalcification scars. Naturally, patients with excellent hygiene will not need this service, whereas patients with chronically poor hygiene may require it at every visit; thus, "selective polishing" applies not to just teeth but to patients as well.
PARTNERS IN PREVENTION...
We continue to recommend that all patients in braces have their teeth cleaned by their dentist four times (4X) each year. Waugh & Allen's hygienists no longer provide the alternating cleanings. By expanding Partners in Prevention in this way we feel confident that, for most patients, decalcification is a thing of the past!
